A Clinical Study on Acute Generalized Peritonitis


Abstract
This report is a clinical analysis of 305 patients with acute generalized `peritonitis who underwent a abdominal operation at the Department of Surgery of Kyung Hee University Hospital from Oct. 1972 to May 1976.
The result obtained- as following:
1. The main causes of acute generalized peritonitis were perforated appendicitis, perforated gastroduodenal ulcer and cancer, traumatic intestinal perforation and typhoid fever accompanied by ileal perforation.
2. The overall male to female sex ratio was 2, 3 :1, but in traumatic intestinal perforation was 3.3 : 1
3. The majority of patient with perforated appendicitis were 2nd to 3rd decade male but
in the cases of traumatic hollow viscus perforations were 3 rd to 4.th decade..
4. About 65 percents of patient with acute generalized peritonitis visited our hospital within
48 hours from onset but 24 percents over 72 hours.
5. In perforated gastroduodenal ulcer and cancer, subphrenic free gas shadow were showed on x-ray about 89 percent of patient and peritoneal irritation signs and ileus pattern were showed about 71 percents-of typhoid fever accompanied by ileal perforation.
6. Postoperative adhesive ileus and wound infection were-most-in perforate appendicitis
7. The overall mortality of the cases was 4. 6 percents.
